British
Steam Railways - Steam on Vacation
Watch
Video Clip
From
the first excursion on the Liverpool & Manchester
Railway in 1830, just five years after the opening
of the Stockton & Darlington, to the modern-day
Isle of Man rail tourist services, this original-format
DVD/book combination tells the story of the evolution
of the British holiday, and how its development –
and that of the destinations the burgeoning tourist
industry served – is inextricably linked with
the growth of the steam railways and the resulting
social transformation of Britain.
The accompanying DVD contains rare archive footage,
dovetailed with films shot by Planet Three’s
British Steam Railways film crew, and scripted and
edited to provide a documentary-style continuity and
breadth; the hour-long programme features interviews
with railway volunteers and experts, guided tours
of workshops and locomotives, and clips of an era
long gone.
